WHO AM I, WHAT DO I OFFER

Current availabilities:

I have availability for individual and couple's counseling at the Rittenhouse location:

1845 Walnut Street, Suite 2323

Philadelphia, PA 19103

I am also providing services using secure telemedicine videoconferencing platforms for those who wishes to remain virtual.

I do not have a formal sliding scale, but will consider reducing my rates in special circumstances.

Starting therapy can be stressful. I make things as easy and straightforward as possible for us to get started. I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to briefly discuss your reasons for seeking counseling and how I may be able to help. The first 2-3 sessions will be set up for us to get to know each other more formally, and see if you feel comfortable working with me. If either of us should feel we are not a good match, I will try to help to find you an appropriate referral who fits your needs.

Welcome to my website! I'm Amelie Yang Custer, and I hold a Master of Science in Education in Counseling and Mental Health Services (CMHS) as well as a Master of Philosophy in Professional Counseling (PC) from the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education. My undergraduate degree is in Applied Psychology, with a minor in Education and Philosophy, from Hainan Normal University's School of Psychology.

With over 10 years of experience working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds, I am a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of supporting children, adolescents, adults, and families in various settings, including community mental health, schools, and outpatient clinics.

My therapeutic approach is described as attentive, open, creative, warm, and flexible, with a touch of humor. I see each person I work with as a unique and complex individual, and I believe in partnering with my clients as co-creators of their healing journey. Together, we can establish a deep sense of healing, understanding, clarity, personal growth, peace, and fulfillment. My goal is to help you develop healthy relationships with yourself and others. During our sessions, I listen to you without assumptions, judgment, or an agenda. We will carefully explore and address the experiences that require healing or understanding, with the ultimate aim of improving your overall quality of life and helping you reach your full potential.

Beyond therapy, I have a passion for drawing, painting, sculpting, and making music. Drawing from my background as a musician and artist, I listen beyond words and look beyond appearances to understand and connect with your inner voice and world.

I take a systemic approach to address issues, recognizing that they are often interconnected within larger systems. Instead of focusing solely on surface-level symptoms, I strive to uncover the root causes of problems to facilitate long-lasting positive changes.

My areas of expertise include trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions and stress, identity exploration, self-esteem, ADHD, OCD, grief and loss, interpersonal relationships, international student mental health, and cultural adjustment/acculturation issues. I am committed to providing LGBTQIA+ affirming care.

I am skilled in various therapeutic modalities, such as psychodynamic therapy, existential therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), brief strategic family therapy (BSFT), Exposure and Response Prevention therapy (ExRP for OCD), Ketamine-assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), and creative arts therapy. My therapeutic services are available to adults (18+).

If you would like to schedule a free phone consultation, request more information, or set up an appointment, please feel free to fill out the contact form below. I am here to support you on your journey towards healing, growth, and personal transformation.
